Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Alaska Project Replica Watch Review

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Alaska Project reference 311.32.42.30.04.001 was the limited edition Speedmaster watch model that Omega introduced at Baselworld 2008. It happens to have one of the most interesting “limited-edition stories” among the modern limited-edition Omega Speedmaster Moonwatches, in my opinion, and it happens to look really cool. I’ll readily admit that my purchase of this watch began with an initial interest when it first debuted, but I didn’t get it until several years later. Lucky for me, I was able to get the last unsold new one here in the US that Omega had. I’ve heard that recently The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Alaska Project has become a collectors’ favorite, with prices incrementally increasing at auction.

I don’t like to have the same watches as everyone else, even if there is a good reason to have those watches. I’m never shy about suggesting to people that getting an Omega Speedmaster is a good idea, but for me, I like to wear the ones that are a bit less common. Moreover, I have a soft place in my heart for white-dialed sport watches – and if you haven’t noticed, there aren’t too many of these in the Cheap Omega Replica family.
The success of the Omega Speedmaster isn’t just because of history, but also because of its dedication to being a tool watch first, and a “nice watch” second. This isn’t all function and no style, but it works wonderfully as a utilitarian object that just happens to look sexy in the process. Reams have been written about why the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is a must-have for most modern watch lovers, and I won’t seek to reiterate the love and passion that has been thus far communicated for years all over the internet and in Omega Replica Watches publications. All I can do is add my own thoughts and experience with Omega Speedmaster watch models.

For the original Alaska Project watches, Omega Replica developed a pusher system in the aluminum doughnut housing which allowed for the chronograph to be operated with it on. Perhaps the most amazing element of the 2008 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Alaska Project limited edition watch was that is actually came with specially made aluminum outer-casings that you could wear with the watch. This was a very rare addition to a limited edition Omega watch, in that there was a specially designed accessory to go with it aside from the watch case, straps, and tools. An interesting piece of trivia is that the original Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Alaska Project from about 1970 was a lot more than a white-dialed Speedmaster. It was a serious and expensive project that Omega was using not only to continue their participation in the NASA space missions, but to also improve the Speedmaster’s design and performance.

1769
As you know, these watches never went to space because NASA did not engage in the planned missions to the dark side of the moon, but Omega was eager not to have the entire project be a write-off. So what Cheap Omega Replica did was take lessons from the Alaska Project and build them into the “improved” Speedmaster Mk II which was released shortly thereafter.

Cost Of Entry: Omega Replica Watches

Welcome to the latest installation in our Cost of Entry series, where we find the most affordable entry level pieces from some of the leading luxury watch brands. We previously looked at Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual watch, the Panerai Luminor PAM000 Base Logo watch, and the Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium as each brand’s respective entry-level model. No less than a giant in the watch world, and with more than a few fans in the aBlogtoWatch community, our series would be incomplete without Cheap Omega Replica and, to play within the rules of our Cost of Entry series, a look at the brand’s most affordable automatic timepiece available today: the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Chronometer watch. Oh, and we’ll also check out the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M, a quartz model coming in as the brand’s lowest priced men’s watch.

For the record, I believe the absolute least expensive Omega watch overall is the ladies’ 24.4mm quartz De Ville Prestige, at around US$2,650. But, according to Google Analytics, the aBlogtoWatch audience is about 90% male (no towel snapping, please) and probably overwhelmingly interested in mechanical watches, so we are tweaking our Cost of Entry definition a little bit.

Fans of the brand will find that Omega’s most basic watches offer a lot of what they like – if not everything some perhaps want, of course. We should not be surprised or disappointed that luxury bells and/or whistles cost more, and that entry-level pieces don’t have some of the premium features that get horology fans excited. In Omega Replica Watches case, however, these are not stripped down, compromised, or at all lacking in the technology, quality, style, or history the brand is known for, and we want to look at exactly what they offer.

The full range of Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watches offer a number of sizes and variations, with the materials, finishing, and construction you should expect from Omega. All are 150 meters water-resistant, promising a good level of durability, especially considering what may be seen as a more classic/dressy styling. They can, of course, claim to share the history of the Omega Replica Seamaster line and Omega overall. So the most affordable Omega men’s watch offers all of that – in other words, more or less all you should want from an Omega watch except for a biggie: a mechanical movement.

Further supporting that notion is the ceramic bezel. Even though the use of ceramic is becoming more common and even approaching “standard” in dive watch bezels these days, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M has featured it since 2012. The ceramic bezel adds notable value, and in combination with the sapphire crystal, it means that the entire front of the watch is essentially scratch-proof forever. Note, also, that the lume extends not only to the hour markers, bezel pip, and tips of the hands, but thin strips on the skeletonized shafts of the hands also glow in the dark – ensuring that your Cheap Omega Replica will be readable and recognizable in all lighting situations.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5mm Chronograph has a two-tone look, with a large case made of 18K Sedna gold and stainless steel and a bicolor bracelet combining the same materials. Both the dial and the unidirectional rotating bezel are in polished, deep blue ceramic; the numerals and diving scale notations on the bezel are in Omega’s own Ceragold material. The screw-down caseback, as on all the new Cheap Omega Replica Planet Ocean watches, is enhanced with an alveol wave pattern design. The movement in the watch is Omega’s Master Chronometer Caliber 9900, an automatic with a column-wheel chronograph function and a power reserve of 60 hours. Like all Master Chronometer calibers, it features a silicon balance spring and a co-axial escapement and is antimagnetic to 15,000 Gauss. The case is 18.87 mm thick and water-resistant to 600 meters. The dial’s bicompax design has a 60-minute and 12-hour chronograph counter combined in a single subdial at 3 o’clock, running seconds in a subdial at 9 o’clock, a central chronograph seconds hand, and a date window at 6 o’clock. The hands and applied indices are in Sedna gold and enhanced with Super-LumiNova.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Auto marks another watch-world first for Omega, namely the blending of rubber with ceramic in a dive watch bezel. A bright orange rubber covers the first 15 minutes of the bezel’s dive scale, while Liquidmetal — a substance used in other Omega Replica Watches models and by other brands throughout the Swatch Group — is used for the numbers and scale increments. The 6000-meter water-resistant, 43.5-mm case is made of stainless steel (another model is available in titanium with a sandblasted titanium dial); the polished, black ceramic dial has new, applied Arabic numerals with an orange varnish. The structured rubber strap is black with a black-and-orange rubber inner lining. The watch is powered by the Master Chronometer Caliber 8900. Like all Semasters, it has a screw-down crown and a helium-release valve.

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 43.50mm GMT, which contains Master Chronometer Caliber 8906, makes a stark, striking visual statement with its polished bi-ceramic black-and-white bezel ring. This watch’s bezel, with its 24-hour numbered scale, rotates in both directions — it’s for displaying a second time zone, not for diving — and serves as a day-night indicator for the central GMT hand. The numerals and indices on the black and white sections are in the contrasing ceramic color for easy legibility. The hands and indices are treated with Super-LumiNov, as is the dot at 12 o’clock, which also glows green. The stainless steel watch comes on a black leather strap with rubber lining and is fitted with a foldover clasp in stainless steel.
